ULTIMATE ADVISOR FOR STAYING FIT
WHILE TRAVELING FOR WORK

Regular exercise is not only a part of a certain lifestyle and commitment. It also requires discipline and one of the secrets to fitness success is maintaining a routine. You go to your gym at certain times, on specific days, and follow your personal fitness plan. That’s why travel can really throw off your progress. Fortunately, there are ways to stay fit while traveling.

Plan ahead and be committed

A big and important part in making this plan of workout while travelling, to happen is – planning it ahead of time.

  • Find out if the place you are staying has gym access or if there are places to workout nearby.
  • Check for the access to local classes or activities in your area.
  • Bring the exercising equipment with you or plan “at home” body weight exercises. Calisthenics or body weight exercises are great for the travelers.
  • Create a bodyweight plan you can do no matter where you stay.
  • Use fitness apps to find workouts you can follow.
  • Stream fitness classes on your phone or laptop.

Organize your time while travelling

If you are traveling by car, see if you can organize early arrival to do some workout when you reach your destination. If you travel with plane or train, make stretches or body weight workout during your trip. Whether you’re sitting on a plane (or stuck in a long meeting) you can do some exercises while seated. Lots of basic sedentary stretches will keep you loose and limber even during the “stuck” parts of travel. Think neck rolls, shoulder shrugs, and side twists.

Make sure you stay active whenever is possible

Even the busiest travel plans have waiting periods. You wait for taxi, drive,  between flights or meetings. Explore the airport and walk around, carry your luggage, do squats or lunges while you wait, or stretch when you’re sitting around. Take every opportunity to walk, take the stairs, skip the rope and practice tensing and releasing your stomach muscles.

Build exercise into every day routine

Staying fit while traveling doesn’t always have to happen at the gym or as a formal plan! Regardless your trip lasts for two days or three weeks, make sure you do 15 minutes workout every day by focusing on different muscles area, before going to sleep or/and after you wake up.

Keep your immune system with healthy food.

Travel, especially for vacation, can make blowing off your diet tempting. Bringing healthy snacks that will support your immune system – for example, dried cherries that contain natural antioxidants. Knowing what your best fast food options are and watching portion sizes can keep your diet on track (or at least close to it!). Rather than counting calories while on the road, just try to stick to whole, natural, healthy foods. If your plans involve parties or celebrations, make sure you fill most of your plate with fruits and vegetables, leaving just a small space for that special treat. And focus on having conversation, not having food. Don’t forget to go easy on the alcohol. Not only are alcoholic drinks loaded with calories, they also tend to weaken your resolve to eat better.
